A device resembling a bomb found at a Colorado Springs park was determined to be a hoax, but not before forcing evacuations and requiring a bomb squad to respond.
The device was found in a Walmart bag on the west side of Memorial Park Thursday afternoon. Authorities descended upon the park after bag was reported and cleared the area, including forcing several football teams to evacuate.
The explosives unit brought in their remote-controlled robot to investigate the bag's contents, which looked exactly like a bomb. The robot determined it was fake.
It's a felony in the state of Colorado to leave a hoax device, and police say they are taking the incident very seriously. If you know who left the device, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP right away.
