The pursuit of a drunk suspect ended, police say, after the man fell off a two-story building.
The suspect survived the fall, but is being treated for serious injuries.
Police say the incident began just before 2 a.m. Saturday, when a Springs officer tried to pull over a suspected drunk driver in the area of Barnes and Austin Bluffs. The driver did stop, but police say that once Officer Robert Flaugh tried to detain him for intoxication, the driver ran away.
Flaugh chased after the suspect, who darted into an apartment complex. Flaugh then lost sight of him until the suspect tumbled off the building.
Police say in addition to being drunk, the suspect was found carrying a lot of drugs and a large amount of money. Once released from the hospital, he will be taken to the CJC.
The suspect has been identified as Sergio Sanchez.
The Penrose Main ER went on lockdown Saturday morning while Sanchez was treated.
