Police say a 19-month-old girl is dead at the hands of her father.
The child's mother called police Monday morning after reportedly waking up and seeing her ex-boyfriend standing over her with a gun. She fled the apartment, and told police her ex was still inside with their child.
Police say they heard a gunshot after arriving on scene. The toddler was found with her father inside the apartment, both with gunshot wounds. They were rushed to the hospital, where 19-month-old Mia McKoy-Phanthavongsa was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. Her father's condition is unknown.
Police say 22-year-old Merrick McKoy turned the gun on himself after shooting his daughter.
Right before shooting his little girl, relatives told sister station KCNC that McKoy got on Facebook and started posting disturbing messages to Facebook about his relationship to his ex-girlfriend. Then he posted a photo of himself holding his daughter.
Minutes later, the gun went off.
