A couple of canine crimefighters will be sporting brand new vests on the job thanks to the generosity of a number of strangers.
People turned out in droves back in November to donate at the "Help for Heat" fundraiser, organized by non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, the initially fundraiser started out solely for K-9 Heat, but during the event police learned K-9 Petra would also need a new vest. When the news got out, donations poured in--CSPD says they far exceeded their original goal of $950. They raised $2,000--enough to get both dogs their life-saving equipment.
Individual vests cost $950.
CSPD announced Friday that the canines have received their brand new bullet and stab protective vests.
