Colorado Springs Police say a driver, distracted behind the wheel, slammed into another car. 11 News talked to the passenger who was in the SUV that was hit about those tense moments.
The crash happened on Interquest Parkway on the north side of Colorado Springs.
The victim and police both say the driver who caused the crash reached down to grab his phone. That's when the driver smashed into the back of an SUV that was stopped at a red light.
11 News talked to the victim, Keith Allen. He said he had just finished bowling with his brother and his brother's girlfriend.
They were on their way home, stopped at a red light on eastbound Interquest Parkway. Allen was sitting in the backseat of their ford explorer.
That's when police say a Chevy truck slammed into the back of their SUV.
“All the sudden, bam, it hit us from behind. I blacked out for a little bit then I woke up. She was screaming. The car was stopped and I turned around. Our back end was busted in and the windows were gone. His car was smoking," Allen recalled.
All three inside the SUV were all taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Police didn't have a copy of the final report, so it's unclear what the driver was ticketed with.
