Authorities in Prowers County said Friday a commander with the Lamar Police Department is suspected of stealing from a house he was renting.
Lamar Police Commander Edward David Herrera and his wife, Carolyn Patrice Herrera, are under investigation for theft, according to a news release from the Prowers County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to a Wiley residence on reports of a theft on September 10. The home owner reported the water softener was missing from the home, valued at $1,050.00.
Herrera was interviewed during the investigation, and it was determined that there was probable cause to believe he had been involved in the theft. Warrants were then issued for Herrera and his wife, who were out of town at the time.
Although Herrera indicated he would turn himself in, authorities say he hasn't yet as of Friday afternoon.
