The inside story of abuse so awful, it adds up to attempted murder. A local man is charged for what he allegedly did to a young boy with special needs while the mom was away at work.
Colorado Springs police arrested Lee Kizer, 30, Monday for child abuse and attempted murder.
Arrest papers obtained by 11 News detail the terror the 14-year-old boy said he experienced at the hands of his mother's boyfriend.
The 14-year-old boy and his 13-year-old brother told police that their mother often makes them kneel in a corner of their bedroom the whole time she's away at work. Kizer, her boyfriend, is left in charge.
The boy told investigators that on Saturday, Kizer caught them leaning back on his calves, trying to take a break from the kneeling.
He stated Lee got mad and asked which one of them wanted to get "beat on first." Lee then took [name withheld] out of the bedroom and into the living room. He stated he could hear the sounds of slaps and saying "OW." Lee then brought [name withheld] back into the bedroom and made him kneel back in the corner...Lee then started beating in him...slapped him in the face and on the head with an open hand. He stated Lee also kneed him multiple times in the stomach. --Excerpt from the arrest affidavit
The arrest affidavit states that Kizer then forced the boy into the bathroom, where he allegedly dunked the boy's head in the toilet and told him "today you're going to die.”
Investigators said Kizer also held him under cold water in the bath tub, covering his nose and mouth until the boy's body started to shut down. The boy struggled to get away from the water, and told investigators he tried to scream but couldn't because his mouth was covered.
After pulling him out of the tub, Kizer allegedly started twisting the boy's neck, counting down to his death.
He [the victim] stated it was a 6 or a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10 for pressure. ...As he was twisting his neck, Lee told him he was going to count to three. [Name withheld] stated he thought it was going to be the last three seconds of his life. He stated Lee said "One" and [name withheld] said "I don't want to die...Lee said "Two" and again [the victim] said "I don't want to die." He stated Lee said "Three" and [name withheld] said he would listen and promised. [Name withheld] stated at this point, Lee told him he had better not break his promise. --Excerpt from arrest affidavit
The victim told authorities that at this point, Lee allowed him to go back to the corner to continue kneeling.
Police said that on Monday, the boy was taken to Memorial Hospital with numerous injuries.
The victim's other brother, who's 8, said he didn't see what Lee allegedly did to his oldest brother, but that he has witnessed Lee hurting his brother before.
When police interviewed the boy's mother, she reportedly said that her son had been telling her these past few weeks that her boyfriend was threatening to kill him.
She reportedly told investigators he's been aggressive toward her son in the past and doesn't know why he treats him that way--but that he only does it when she's not around.
11 News reporter Alyssa Chin talked to neighbors around the apartment complex about what happened. While there, the mother approached Chin.
Mom: "This is between me and my kids and the man that did it.”
Chin: “It's pretty horrifying.”
Mom: “You think? I lived it, I know."
Neighbors are struggling to wrap their heads around what allegedly was going on so close to them.
“I was terrified I was scared because I wasn't home and so I couldn't help them and I didn't know," another neighbor said.
"It scared me. It really did. It was not, I couldn't imagine someone doing that to anybody," another neighbor added.
Kizer will be back in court next week. He’s in jail on a $100,000 bond. We'll be sure to let you know what happens.
