An alleged shoplifter got caught with a lot more than stolen merchandise, according to police.

Colorado Springs police said Anthony Barreras, 20, had a bag of what appeared to be crystal meth and a loaded gun.

The officer found the alleged meth as he was searching Barreras, and said the suspect then tried to bribe him with $100 to let him go.

Barreras reportedly fought with the officers as he was being handcuffed, and that's when a loaded gun apparently fell out of his waist band. Police said an employee picked up the gun as the officer continued to struggle with the suspect.

Barreras was eventually handcuffed and treated for injuries to his face that were sustained in the fight before being taken to jail.

Barreras is facing multiple charges including possession of a schedule II drug, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, bribery and theft.

Police said Barreras has a felony record. The ATF will review the case to determine if he will also face federal charges.

The incident happened at 9:40 a.m. January 6 at the Walmart located on the 3200 block of East Platte in Colorado Springs.
