A teen and a boy were hit by a vehicle and killed on Pikes Peak near Parkside. That's not far from Memorial Park.
Investigators tell us 47-year-old Robert Icenogle may have been on drugs when he slammed his SUV into the minivan. They say at the time of the crash, the 17-year-old Leondro Carabajal, 9-year-old Neto White, and a 10-year-old girl were pushing the broken down van.
The Carabajal died at the scene. White was rushed to the hospital and later died. The 10-year-old girl was also injured with a broken ankle in the crash. That child was taken to a local hospital and is now recovering.
The woman, who was driving the minivan, is the mother of an infant and a 4-year-old child who were inside the minivan. All three were taken to the hospital as a precaution. She is also the mother of the White and the 10-year-old girl. Investigators say Carabajal was a family friend; his mother was driving down to Colorado Springs from Cheyenne, Wyo.
Eastbound and Westbound lanes of Pikes Peak were closed for nearly five hours. Police say the Carabajal and White were pushing the stalled minivan out of the roadway when they were hit.
The driver who reportedly caused the crash is in jail and will face DUI charges for the drug use, and vehicular homicide.
