Police Searching For Suspect In Deadly Shooting At Springs Hotel

The sound of sirens interrupted a quiet Saturday morning as authorities surrounded a Springs hotel on reports of a shooting.

Guests at the Days Inn off Rusina Road near I-25 and Garden of the Gods were startled by the sight of crime scene tape and police vehicles.

Authorities spent hours at the scene trying to piece together whether the shooting was an accident as the witness who called 911 claimed, or if it was a homicide. The victim, 29-year-old Justin Dore, died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

At this time, police do suspect another man played a part in the shooting. An arrest warrant has been issued for 25-year-old Billie Thomas Allen for the charge of manslaughter.

According to police, Dore's girlfriend called 911 just after 9 a.m. Saturday. She said they were in the room with another man, who police believe to be Allen, when Dore was shot in the abdomen.

That man ran away from the room after the shooting and drove off before officers arrived.

Allen is described as a 6-foot-4 white male, weighing 200 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen driving a later model white Ford Crew Cab pick-up with unknown plates. Police say Allen is considered armed and dangerous.

The owner of the hotel tells us Allen was never checked into the hotel; it was only Dore and his girlfriend who were checked into that room. The owner says they checked in around 5 a.m.

The ER at Penrose Hospital went on lockdown for a few hours after Dore arrived. The hospital says that is standard procedure when patients with gunshot wounds are admitted.

If you know anything about this crime you are asked to call police at 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
