A parolee and his wife are facing charges after they were found with drugs, money and a handgun.
The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit arrested Carlos Valdez, 29, and his wife Marquisa Ann Valdez, 31, Wednesday.
Parole officers had been watching their mobile home on Red Creek Springs Road because Carlos' parole status had changed to "escape." Deputies found a Walther P-22 semi-automatic handgun that had been reported stolen out of Pueblo, $3,000 in cash and more than three grams of heroin in the home.
Pueblo County Sheriff Kirk Taylor says these arrests were made possible because of the partnership between state and local agencies.
"We have an excellent working relationship with the local parole office. I am concerned about the state's early releases from prison reoffending in communities across the state and ending up in local jail," he said.
The sheriff's office says Taylor is working with community leaders to come up with solutions to this problem.
Carlos and Marquisa are charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. Carlos also faces theft, weapons possession and other charges.
