The El Paso County Coroner's Office just released the name of the teen killed on New Year's Day.

He is 19 year old Olajuwon Kumangai. On Wednesday night Colorado Springs Police arrested Matthew John DeJong. He is accused of killing Kumangai early Wednesday morning.

The shooting happened just after 7a.m. at the Antero Apartments in Colorado Springs.

11 News talked to a father who witnessed the deadly shooting and tried to save the victim.

“I ran down with my hands in the air saying I'm here to help. I ran and put pressure on his neck,” Terry Jones explained. Jones says the teenager was bleeding from a gunshot wound to the neck. He checked his pulse and tried to stop the bleeding until paramedics arrived, but the 19 year old died at the scene. Jones says this is a tragic situation.

"Then I started thinking about my daughter, you just wonder, only God knows what it was over but it wasn't worth the life of the man who passed away.”

At this point police are not releasing the name of the teen killed. An autopsy is scheduled for later this week.

We looked into Matthew DeJong's criminal background. He has possession of drugs on his record and driving while ability impaired.
