A manhunt is underway in Lamar and the surrounding area after an officer was assaulted at a convenience store late Wednesday night.
Investigators said the officer was trying to arrest the driver of a vehicle on the 1400 block of South Main Street when he was assaulted by the suspect. Police said the officer fired shots, but no one was injured by gunfire.
The officer sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital and later released.
Law enforcement is searching for the suspect, who remains at large. Police have not released the suspect's name, or the name of the officer involved in the incident.
