A Colorado Springs police officer was injured while investigating a stolen license plate shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday morning.

The officer was making contact with a suspect in a car that had a stolen license plate, near Fillmore Street and Illinois Avenue. When the officer approached the car, the woman inside sped off at a high rate of speed, striking the officer.

The name of the officer has not been released. He was taken to the hospital and released later Saturday morning.

Police located the car a short time later after it crashed near Nichols Boulevard and Virginia Avenue. The driver left the car and took off on foot through the neighborhood. Police later received a call indicating that the suspect had been seen on Applewood Drive, near Mount View Lane and Hancock Avenue.

Police conducted an extensive search of the neighborhood that lasted hours, but never found the woman.

The suspect is described as a white female in her early 20s, with blond hair and a thin build. She was last seen wearing dark clothes.
