President Obama, no stranger to Colorado during the general election, is returning to the state once again to garner support.

This time the issue at hand isn't his re-election, but to gain congressional support for national gun control legislation.

Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper signed new legislation into law two weeks ago, making Colorado the first state out of the traditionally blue northeast to dramatically strengthen its gun laws. Colorado was the site of one of the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. history last summer at the Century 16 theater in Aurora.

The president plans to meet with law enforcement and community leaders during his visit to discuss the state's new legislation. The visit is intended to highlight Colorado's new legislation in an attempt to push Congress towards tackling the issue.

Under the new law, the sale of magazines that hold more than 15 bullets is prohibited. Background checks are also required for all private gun sales.

Obama is scheduled to arrive in Denver Wednesday afternoon.
