A 24-year-old is accused of unlawful sexual contact while canvassing for the Obama campaign in Loveland Tuesday.
Luke Buchanan, a Colorado Democratic Party employee, was arrested after the Loveland Obama campaign office helped identify him.
According to police, Buchanan grabbed a 21-year-old woman's breasts while placing a campaign sticker on her shirt. The woman told police that Buchanan had knocked on her door Tuesday afternoon, and it first appeared to be a typical campaign stop; Buchanan chatted with her about her voting status for a short time before asking if he could give her the campaign sticker.
The Colorado Democratic Party stressed that Buchanan's behavior was not reflective of the party as a whole.
“We have a zero tolerance policy for inappropriate behavior. As soon as we learned about this incident, we took immediate action, and the person in question has been terminated. The actions of one individual in no way reflect the hard work being done every day by the thousands of employees and volunteers the Colorado Democratic Party who have spent countless hours talking to their friends and neighbors about the importance of this election,” Colorado Democratic Party Communications Director Matt Inzeo told sister station KCNC.
Buchanan was booked in the Larimer County Jail for one count of unlawful sexual contact.
