New Non-Stop Flight Offered From COS To Phoenix

Non-stop flights from Colorado Springs and Phoenix have returned to Southern Colorado. Allegiant announced Tuesday that the flights would begin May 15.

In their announcement, the company plans to offer promotional one-way fares starting at $49.

"We are thrilled to once again provide Colorado Springs residents with affordable, nonstop service to Phoenix," said Andrew C. Levy, Allegiant Travel Company President and COO in a written statement. "We are confident the community will enjoy the convenient access to this popular warm-weather destination and the ability to book their entire vacation with us for less."

A lot of people we talked to said they mostly fly out of Denver, They added that they'd like to see more direct and cheap flights like this new one from the Springs.

"I don't know, I have no intentions of traveling to Phoenix so it will benefit me in no way whatsoever," one traveler said.

City leaders said while it won't solve everything, it's a big step in the right direction.

Kathy Boe is the CEO of Boecore and a Colorado Springs Community Business Leader. She told us this is great for the city’s future.

"What I would really like to see is Colorado Springs continue to grow their air service so that we can continue to grow business," Boe said.

The draw to get travelers into this airport has been, and continues to be- a hard fought battle. Colorado Springs hasn't had any service to Phoenix since Frontier Airlines ended its flights last April.

"It makes me excited because we haven't had very many options at the airport for a while, so I think the more the better," another traveler said.

"We need to get the word out as a community, we need to support it, and then they'll be able to grow just like a normal business grows," Boe added.

The company said the flight days and times and the lowest fares can be found on their website, which can be found in the link below. They plan to start with just two flights a week.

"I hope that it brings more demand from other carriers to our market," Boe said.

According to Allegiant, they first began service at Colorado Springs Airport in February 2002 with nonstop service to Las Vegas and previously offered service to Phoenix from 2010 to 2012.

The airline says they're hopeful this route will be successful and could possibly add some other new flights to more destinations in the future.
