11 News has the details about what investigators said they found when they discovered a local woman's body.

The court papers detail what the accused killer, Rae Lena Stanley, 57, said about her mother's death. Monday, Stanley went before a judge to hear the murder charges she now faces. While in front of the judge she refused a court appointed lawyer and said she wanted to hire her own attorney.

The arrest papers show Stanley admitted to killing her mother.

“This is not something that I would have ever thought of my sister to do, I mean I know she was crazy but to go to this point it's unthinkable,” Stanley’s sister, Mara Jefferson told us Sunday night.

According to court papers, their mom, Charlas "June" Stanley, was found dead on the floor of a home on North Curtis Road in El Paso County. She had several stab wounds on her body, she was burned and, her arms and legs had been bound.

The papers state Rae Stanley flagged down an El Paso County deputy while she was walking on the street near the home. She had on a long sleeve shirt and nothing else. She also reportedly had blood on her shirt and on her bare feet. Stanley told the deputy that her mom was dead.

Rae Stanley later admitted to a detective she had killed her mom but didn't give a reason why.

“She took my mother away from me so I've lost my sister also,” Jefferson said.

According to Stanley's sister and her brother she has been in and out of mental hospitals and was staying with her mom after recently leaving one.

A Colorado Springs woman is in jail after police say she killed her own mother.

11 News spoke to a family member who explained what happened leading up to the alleged murder.

Mara Jefferson said her sister is the suspect, 57-year old Rae Lena Stanley, and the victim is her mother, Charlas "June" Stanley.

Jefferson said she remembers her mother and sister's relationship was strained for years.

"As my sister's mental stability started getting worse [the relationship was] very unhealthy. My mom blamed herself for Rae's mental problems," she said.

Jefferson said her sister Rae suffers from schizophrenia and that she had left Cedar Springs Mental Hospital about a week and a half ago and was staying with her mother.

"[Charlas] loved her family, she loved her family dearly. She loved her kids," said Jefferson.

She said that night Charlas and Rae were fighting about family issues.

"I guess my mom was afraid and agreed to let Rae stay one more night but then the next day she had to go," said Jefferson.

Before that could happen, police say Stanley killed her own mother in her home.

"The took a lot of knives, bloody knives ... God knows I forgive her for what she did, but I no longer have a sister," Jefferson said.

Rae Stanley was arrested and is now facing First Degree Murder charges.

Officers found the suspect walking down the roadway near the home on Curtis Road just before 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

They say Stanley was saying things that made them concerned and when they arrived at the house that's when officers found Charlas Stanley dead.
