Motorcyclist Killed After Collision With Bear

An encounter with wildlife ended tragically for a motorcyclist Thursday afternoon.

Colorado State Patrol says a bear was attempting to cross Highway 17 near Antonito, Colo. just as the rider was approaching. The bear hit the side of the motorcycle, ejecting the motorcyclist. Responding troopers tried to resuscitate the 63-year-old rider. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

At this time, the rider is not being identified. State Patrol says he was from Aztec, N.M.

Alcohol and speed are not considered factors in the crash.
