A serious motorcycle crash shut down a busy Springs intersection for hours Sunday evening.

Police say the driver of the motorcycle lost control of the bike near Colorado and Pikes Peak just before 7 p.m., throwing both riders off. Alcohol is currently suspected.

The male driver sustained serious, life-threatening injuries in the crash. The woman riding with him fractured her foot and suffered some abrasions, but is expected to recover.

The Major Accident Unit was called out to the scene. The road was closed during their investigation.
