A damaged transformer is to blame for a power outage that affected more than 1,600 customers of Black Hills Energy in Pueblo Saturday morning.
Wes Ashton of Black Hills Energy says a pole housing a transformer caught fire west of the Blende area in the wee hours of Saturday morning. The fire damaged the transformer and knocked out power to the southeast part of Pueblo.
Areas affected were east of I-25 from the Blende area to the Belmont area.
Ashton says crews arrived on the scene to assess the damage and worked to reroute the power around that transformer to restore power to Pueblo. Crews had power restored roughly an hour after the outage started.
