Missing Mountain Biker Located Hours After He Goes Missing

After 11 hours, a missing mountain biker was found several miles away from his campground.

The Fremont County Sheriff's Office says the 45-year-old had been biking Friday with a friend in the Banks campground area north of Canon City when they got split up around 4 p.m., as the sun was beginning to go down.

The friend searched some of the trails in the dark, and called the Sheriff's Office a few hours later after the biker had still failed to return to their camping site.

Four ATV teams were used to search miles of trails before finally coming across the missing man at 3 a.m. He was several miles away from the campground, cold and very thirsty--not having a jacket or much water with him--but otherwise fine. To keep warm, he had started two small fires. The Sheriff's Office said he did not have a map with him, so the biker stayed in one spot once he determined he wouldn't be able to find his way back.
