Military Blood Drive This Week

By  |

Military service members have an opportunity Tuesday and Wednesday to help their fellow military members through a blood drive at Fort Carson.

The drive, hosted by the Armed Services Blood Program will take place at the special events center on post June 3 and 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

All blood types are needed.

Military service members, retirees and family must present a military ID and be more than 17-years-old to participate. They must also weigh at least 110 pounds, feel well, and be able to do normal daily activities.

Potential donors will not be able to participate if it has been less than 56 days since their last donation.

It takes about five minutes to give blood, but donors should set aside about an hour to go through the entire process, including a pre-screening, "minimal" physical exam and interview to determine eligibility.

To schedule an appointment, visit the Armed Forces Blood Program website.

Blood donations will be used by medics on the front lines as well as at military hospitals, ships and at combat support hospitals.

The Armed Services Blood Program is the official military blood program with donor centers located at Army, Air Force and Navy installations across the county. In southern Colorado, the donation center will be located at Fort Carson.
