CBS News confirms the death of former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher.
CBS news is reporting she died of a stroke Monday morning. Thatcher was Britian's only woman prime minister and served from 1979 to 1990.
Often referred to as the “Iron Lady” for her personal and political stance, she retired from public life after a stroke in 2002. Thatcher reportedly suffered from several strokes after that.
She won leadership in the Conservative Party in 1975 and became Leader of the Opposition, as well as the first woman to lead a major political party in the United Kingdom.
Thatcher was 87 years old.
