Harrison School District 2 has sent out a letter to parents informing them of a reported attempted kidnapping at one of their schools.

The school district sent the letter out Wednesday after a 12-year-old girl reported being approached by a stranger the previous afternoon.

The girl told police she was walking in the parking lot of Panorama Middle School near Fountain and Jet Wing just before 4 p.m. Tuesday when a car pulled up next to her.

The girl says the driver told her that her mother wanted him to give her a ride home from school. After the girl asked the driver what her mother's name was, the driver sped away. Police say the girl did not enter the vehicle, did not have physical contact with the driver, and was not injured.

The child described the driver as a white man in his late 20s to early 30s, with short, dirty-blonde hair.

She says the car was a black, newer-model Chevrolet sedan with unknown California license plates.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Colorado Springs Police Department at 719-444-7000 or call Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.

D-2 is encouraging parents to have a conversation with their children about safety tips.
