Police are working to determine whether a shooting inside a car was accidental or a suicide attempt.
While driving along the 700 block of North Academy Thursday evening, police say a 22-year-old man suddenly stopped his car in traffic. When a second person pulled over to see if the driver had a medical issue, it was discovered that the driver had been shot in the chest.
Police are still investigating the circumstances around the shooting, but suspect the man shot himself.
The driver survived the shooting and was taken to a nearby hospital. Police are hoping to talk with the driver once he gets out of surgery to find out exactly what happened.
