Fidel Garcia was sentenced to seven years in prison Wednesday for killing 31-year-old Elizabeth Marshall in a hit-and-run accident last year.

Garcia took off from the scene after striking Marshall with his vehicle on the 2100 block of E. Platte in Colorado Springs on June 19 of last year.

According to court papers, police used surveillance video from a nearby motel to determine what kind of vehicle struck the victim. They also collected pieces of the car at the crime scene. The court papers then go on to say that a local attorney called police and gave them an address where the car was parked in a garage. That led detectives to Garcia.

Garcia later turned himself in.
