Deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a man in connection to a shooting.

The shooting happened at a home on Tilden Street in the Security-Widefield area just before 2am on Tuesday morning.

Deputies say there was a gathering at the home involving both alcohol and marijuana. According to investigators, 31 year old Ian Whittaker shot 33 year old Leonard James in the back. James was rushed to the hospital. He is currently listed in serious but stable condition. Although investigators believe the shooting was accidental, they say whenever a deadly weapon is involved serious charges must follow.

Whittaker is in jail facing 2nd degree assault charges.
