Authorities now believe a man put himself in the path of an oncoming train to commit suicide.

The fatal collision happened late Tuesday night between Mitchell and Baptist Road in the Monument area. The train company reportedly called authorities around 11:35 p.m., saying that they thought they hit someone. When the train was able to stop, a deceased man was found.

At this time, the victim has not been identified pending notification of family members.
