(CBS4)- A man accused of murdering an Army veteran in July 2011 has been found guilty by a Denver jury.

Sgt. Anthony Silva was shot to death as he was returning to his home in Illinois. He was spending the night at a motel in northeast Denver in the area of East 39th Avenue and Paris Street, waiting for his father to pick him up for the trip home.

Ricky Scott was convicted on one count of first degree murder. He was found not guilty of felony murder and attempted aggravated robbery.

Scott, 23, met Silva, 25, at a bar near the motel where Silva was staying and later shot and killed him. Scott was later identified as a suspect by the Denver Police Department’s Homicide Unit and was arrested on August 26, 2011.

Scott faces life in prison without parole for his sentencing on Feb. 8, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. He remains in custody in the Denver Detention Center.

Silva was a Fort Carson soldier.
