Man Caught On Camera Burglarizing Local Business

The owner of a local business hopes video from his security cameras could help catch a crook. The thief broke into the business in downtown Colorado Springs first thing Wednesday morning.

"It was pretty obvious that someone was in the store," said Jason Carr. He is vice president at Antique Gallery Inc. in downtown Colorado Springs. His security service called Wednesday morning to tell him alarms were going off when a man broke in the back door.

The burglar went right for the cash register, which tells Jason he's likely been there before.

"Someone I treated well came back and treated me badly," he said.

Surveillance video shows the man wrestling with the register. The cash drawer wouldn't open, so the suspect just took the register, trailing receipt tape behind.

Jason says he feels insulted, but not angry.

"I feel sorry for people who do these things,” he said. “We pray for them."

He does, however, hope the video can help catch a crook.
The burglar broke in before the shop opened Wednesday morning. He may have taken the register, but Jason told 11 News he takes most if not all the cash out as he closes up shop.

In all he thinks the guy got away with about $12.
