It was supposed to be a happy day: a mother's birthday, her two sons with her to celebrate.
But according to court documents obtained by 11 News, the celebration took a nasty turn after one of the sons started drinking.
The court documents say that Andrew Aleman started fighting with his mother during the party. When his brother tried to break in to stop it, Aleman turned on him and began stabbing him multiple times with a pocket knife. The brother suffered injuries to his forearm, hand and upper back.
When Aleman's mother stepped in to stop the attack on her son, authorities say she was stabbed too.
Aleman fled the home after the incident, but police found him within minutes, still in the southwest Springs neighborhood. He was charged with felony assault and stood before a judge for the first time Wednesday. Hus next court appearance is September 4.
His mother and brother are both expected to be okay.
