Police believe 22 year-old Geordan Morris was trying to hide his gun during a traffic stop, when he accidentally shot himself.
It happened in near West Platte Avenue and North 29th Street in Colorado Springs, just after midnight Sunday morning.
Officers had pulled Morris over for a traffic stop, but as the car was coming to a stop, the driver's side door opened, and officers heard a gunshot.
Morris then fell out of the driver's seat, onto the ground and told officers that he'd shot himself.
Officers on scene gave Morris medical attention until an ambulance arrived and he was taken to the hospital.
Morris was treated for his injuries, and taken into custody for a number or charges.
When officers searched the car, they found methamphetamine in addition to the handgun.
