Machete Threat Suspect Pleads Not Guilty By Reason Of Insanity

A man accused of threatening a young boy with a machete pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity Thursday morning. He’ll now have to undergo court-ordered evaluations.

Craig Krejci, 59, was arrested at his home in Peyton last July when a boy he hired to mow his lawn told authorities Krejci cornered the boy in his shed. Krejci reportedly put what the boy thought was a loaded gun to his own head and threatened the boy with a machete.

"He pulled out a machete and swung it a foot away from my face,” the boy told 11 News last summer. “It was really close."

In arrest paperwork obtained by 11 News after the incident, his wife indicates he takes medication for mental illness.

As a result of his plea, Krejci will need to attend evaluation sessions at the Colorado Mental Health Institute. If he doesn’t, he can be arrested and inpatient evaluations will be completed while he is in custody.

The results of those evaluations is due to the court on April 5.
