The numbers are staggering. So far this year 1,892 service members have taken their own lives. The numbers have led some in the military to say that suicide has become epidemic.

The Veterans Administration says every day, 22 U.S. service veterans choose to take their own lives.

Senator John Walsh of Montana introduced a bill to increase access to treatment for post traumatic stress and other issues.

The bill would increase the length of time mental health care is available from the current five years to 15 years.

The Veterans Crisis Hotline is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at 800-273-8255
