The Colorado Springs Airport will be seeing a new leader at its helm as Aviation Director Mark Earle prepares to step down.

The city announced Earle's pending departure in a release Friday.

The airport is now conducting a nationwide search to find a Earle's replacement. Assistant Aviation Director Dan Gallagher will serve as the interim director until a new director is hired.

Earle is staying on as a senior advisor for the rest of the year to assist with the personnel transition.

“It’s been an honor to serve at Colorado Springs Airport over the past nine-and-a-half years. I’ve had the privilege of working with one of the finest staffs in the airport industry and have enjoyed the support of a truly great community,” Earle said in a statement released Friday. “Working together, we have built a strong foundation for the future at COS. I look forward to working with Dan and the rest of the team on a smooth transition, and ensuring the continued success of the Airport Enterprise.”

Mayor Steve Bach said that the city is appreciative of all Earle has done for the airport and the greater community.

“The city greatly appreciates Mark’s leadership of our airport...we wish him continued success in the future. The airport is a critical contributor to our city’s economic success, particularly in the areas of tourism and attracting new jobs, and we will be focused on developing new strategies and collaborative efforts to propel our airport to greater success. The city is confident that with a renewed effort we will be successful in attracting new airlines to the airport and substantially increase passenger volumes. The increased success of the airport will be a very important factor in our ongoing economic recovery.”
