Police say a law designed to protect Colorado lawmakers' ability to travel to and from the statehouse to cast their vote prevented police from determining whether one lawmaker was driving drunk.

Police ticketed Rep. Laura Bradford, a Republican from Grand Junction, with illegal lane change and improper turn Wednesday.

Police spokesman Sonny Jackson says the officer smelled alcohol on Bradford and administered a sobriety test. The officer would have had to arrest Bradford and take her to a police station or medical facility to administer a blood or breath alcohol test, but couldn't because of the law.

Bradford parked her car and took a cab. Bradford did not return a message left on her cell phone.

House Republicans Friday suspended Bradford of her chairmanship of the Local Government Committee.

She should get the full extent of the law! Politicians are in a bad habit of believing that they are above the law. Back in December, 2010, Senator Suzanne Williams (Dem. Aurora) Actually killed a pregnant lady, and endangered her grandchild in Texas, and she appearantly got off on this offense as well. Although the story said that alcohol was not suspected, she was directly responsable for driving head on into the victims car. (http://articles.cnn.com/2010-12-28/us/texas.senator.fatal.crash_1_colorado-state-fatal-accident-stable-condition?_s=PM:US) At least in this case with Bradford, the House Republicans suspended her chairmanship of the Local Government Committee (as they should). Funny how Republicans get their party affiliation put right in the story (as it should be) But if she were a Democrat, they would not have reported her party affiliation, just look at the stories about Sen. Suzanne Williams. Why do the Democrats hide info like this? Are they not proud of their political party?

The sad part is she will have the gall to NOT step down. No shame what so ever. What an embarassment.
