Charges Added To Case Against Ex-Cop

A former Colorado Springs police officer, who stands accused of sexual assault and possessing child pornography, appeared in court again Friday.

Additional charges were filed against Joshua Carrier for child pornography that was found on a computer, bringing the number of charges to 207. All charges will be brought together into one trial on March 12, a decision the judge made in December after determining with the defense that it would not violate Carrier's right to a speedy trial.

Prior to Friday, Carrier was already facing almost 200 charges related to sexual assault and child pornography. Police say he sexually abused children and many of them he oversaw in his role as a school resource officer at Horace Mann Middle School. Twenty-two boys have come forward accusing Carrier of sexual assault.

In December, Carrier’s defense asked the judge for a protective order against the media, which was denied. They tried to argue that the cameras were blocking access to the hallways and elevator in the courthouse.

The judge pointed out that cameras are already barred from the courtroom and that elsewhere they are protected by the first amendment. The defense was also reminded that they could call the police if they ever feel threatened.
