A popular department store has closed its doors at the Chapel Hills Mall in northern Colorado Springs.
There's a sign on the door where J.C. Penney used to be. It says "This J.C. Penney location is permanently closed. We are honored to have served the great people of Colorado Springs for 19 years. Thank you."
The closing is part of a move by the chain to close 33 stores and cut 2,000 jobs across the country.
Closures were announced in January after the end of the holiday shopping season. The chain said it was pleased with its holiday salesbut announced the plan to close dozens of stores days later.
The chain operates more than 1,100 stores and employs about 116,000 people. The 2,000 jobs that were cut are all related to the store closings.
KKTV 11 News asked management at the Chapel Hills Mall if there is another business scheduled to move into the vacated space, but information is not yet available.
