A system producing heavy snow in the central mountains arrives in SE Colorado overnight Sunday into Monday bringing moisture, windy conditions and colder temperatures. Snow showers will be possible across the I-25 corridor to start the day. This system will produce bands of snow through the day Monday. Areas under these bands will see periods of heavy snowfall which, with windy conditions, could create travel difficulties. Several inches of accumulation will be possible in areas where these bands develop. For more information click the ‘Weather’ tab...
It is another sign that winder is on its way. Independence Pass is officially closed for the season.
The pass closed October 31st, seven days ahead of schedule, but C-DOT said it was not sure at the time if the closure would remain in place for the rest of the season. Today C-DOT announced it will remain closed.
The Pass closes every year because of heavy snowfall and dangerous conditions along the 12,095- foot pass. It will reopen for Memorial Day weekend, weather permitting.
While the pass is closed, drivers can take I-70 to Greenwood Springs and SH 82 into Aspen.
