Identity thieves are taking advantage of tax season by filing fraudulent tax returns, and pocketing the money in the name of their victims.
Experts say there has been a 66% increase in fraud that involves identity thieves filing those false claims for refunds. They do it by stealing social security numbers.
One way those thieves steal that information is by getting a hold of old tax returns. Those forms contain social security numbers, addresses, full names and income levels.
