Twenty-two duplexes are without water after a water main break in Colorado Springs overnight.
Officers were first alerted to water gushing onto the road near the 1400 block of Tappan Circle early Wednesday morning. With the temperature hovering just over 20 degrees at 3 a.m., police say the roadway was becoming icy from southbound Murray to Galley, and there were concerns it would become a potential traffic hazard as the morning wore on. Springs Utilities was contacted.
Utility crews will begin repairs at 7 a.m., and expect to be working for six to eight hours.
Nearby Mitchell High School is unaffected by the break itself, but parents and students driving to the school could experience traffic headaches due to the road closures in the area. Currently, Murray is down to one lane between San Miguel and Galley, while San Miguel is completely shut down for one block between Murray and Fosdick Drive.
