Hiker hides in outhouse as lion lingers outside

Officials say a hiker and her dog took refuge in an outhouse after they were confronted by a mountain lion west of Boulder.

The Boulder Daily Camera reports the woman and her dog stayed in the outhouse for several minutes Thursday until the lion moved off.

The woman's name wasn't released. No injuries were reported.

State Parks and Wildlife spokeswoman Jennifer Churchill says the lion was only about three feet away when the woman spotted it. It's not clear if the lion had been hiding.

The woman did as experts advise, making noise and raising her hands to deter the lion, while getting to the outhouse with her dog, which was on a leash. The lion followed from a distance.

Officials found lion tracks corroborating the woman's account.
