Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper is urging state lawmakers to debate gun control in the aftermath of mass shootings in Aurora and Connecticut.
In his State of the State speech Thursday, the governor said, "Our democracy demands this type of debate."
Hickenlooper also renewed his call for the passage of civil unions in Colorado, and asked lawmakers to pass legislation lowering tuition for illegal immigrants who graduate from Colorado schools.
Hickenlooper highlight several economic accomplishments in the state, and is asking for an expansion of Medicaid services.
