A system producing heavy snow in the central mountains arrives in SE Colorado overnight Sunday into Monday bringing moisture, windy conditions and colder temperatures. Snow showers will be possible across the I-25 corridor to start the day. This system will produce bands of snow through the day Monday. Areas under these bands will see periods of heavy snowfall which, with windy conditions, could create travel difficulties. 11 News is working to learn more about early morning police activity near Nevada Avenue and Winters. Roads were blocked off in the area where the chase ended, at El Paso Drive and Prospect. Those roads were open again around 10:30 a.m.
At around 6 a.m. this morning police surrounded a man's home in order to serve an arrest warrant. The suspect then fled from his home and jumped into a white SUV. That's when police began their pursuit.
They found the man, dead in his vehicle near El Paso Drive and Prospect. There was no gunfire exchanged between the suspect and police. He died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
At this time we do know the suspect was wanted for sexual assault, felony menacing and kidnapping charges.
CSPD confirms they have a coroner on the way. We will bring you updates as they become available.
