Head-On Crash Sends Four To Hospital

Four people were taken to the hospital after a head-on collision Saturday afternoon. Only 11 News talked to the family of two people involved the crash.

The accident happened on Constitution near Trent, just a few blocks from Circle Drive.

Family members of the victim said it was a really scary situation for them. They were on the way to the hospital, not sure of the extent of their family's injuries, when had to drive past the crash.

According to Colorado Springs police, the white Chevy truck was going westbound on Constitution when the dark Chevy Malibu crossed over the lanes of traffic into the oncoming truck. The crash happened just before 4 p.m. Saturday.

Two people were inside the Malibu and taken to the hospital with critical and life-threatening injuries.

We talked to the family members of the two women inside the truck. They told us the women were taken to the hospital and are suffering serious injuries that require surgery. Tiffani Ballesteros said her sister-in-law was driving and saw the Malibu swerving before crossing over to the wrong side of traffic.

"She was paying attention to (the Malibu) for quite a while, and you know, trying to avoid having a collision with them but she just wasn't sure what they were doing. If (the Malibu was) turning or just trying to get back in their lane," Ballesteros said.

"Once we got pretty close (to the accident scene) we saw (the truck) was my aunt’s car and it didn't look good at all. Thank God they were wearing their seat belts, my aunt and my grandma, they're doing ok, they're strong, they'll do (well) and I just hope for the best for the other people," Jacob Ballesteros said.

At this time, investigators aren't saying if drugs or alcohol are involved. They're also looking into why the air bags were never deployed in either vehicle.

Constitution was shut down for more than three hours while the crash scene was investigated. Police say at this time no charges have been filed.
