Hail Damages Rocky Ford Cantaloupe Crop

Farmers are feeling the pain of this week's severe weather as it take a big toll on their land.

Nearly 100 acres of the cantaloupe crop got damaged by hail, destroying almost half a million dollars of produce across the Rocky Ford area.

"You just never know, you can't predict exactly where you are going to be hit, if it's going to be rain or if it's going to be hail," said Gail Knapp of Knapp Farms.

Knapp lost around $200,000 worth of produce due to the storms.

Farmers tell 11 News they still plan to deliver their cantaloupe to market next week, but there will be much fewer available than in previous years.
