Colorado Republicans are revisiting the contentious debate over gun control with more political power in the state Legislature.
But the GOP's new majority in the Senate doesn't guarantee that their attempts to roll back gun restrictions will succeed, since Democrats who passed the laws in 2013 still control the House.
Responding to mass shootings, Democrats passed laws limiting the size of ammunition magazines to 15 rounds and requiring background checks for firearm sales conducted online and between private sellers.
On Monday afternoon, Republicans will take a first step in attempting to undo those laws. At the same time, they're trying to expand gun rights to make it possible to possess firearms without a concealed carry permit.
Bills are up for committee votes in each chamber.
