A grass fire that flared up Monday afternoon in eastern Pueblo County is now 100 percent contained.

11 News has learned that firefighters reached full containment at 10 p.m. Monday. A handful of firefighters have remained on scene through the night and into Tuesday morning to keep an eye out for hot spots. A mop up crew is expected on scene later in the morning.

The 15-acre fire is located south of Highway 50 near the St. Charles River and south of Pueblo Memorial Airport.

At the height of the fire, six homes were threatened.

"We were a little nervous," said Kim Milberger, who lives in the area.

Firefighters were able to protect those homes despite gusty winds in the area.

"We could see a pretty wide bunch of smoke coming up out of the river bottom here," said John Felix. "I was worried 'cause it was coming right up towards this house, so I called 911 and told them about where it was."

No evacuations were ordered and there are no reports of any injuries.

Officials say an agricultural burn started the fire, even though there was a ban in effect prohibiting burns in the area for the past two days.

The fire is still under investigation. It unknown if the person that started the fire will face charges.
