Good Samaritans' Stolen Truck Recovered

A stolen vehicle belonging to two Fort Carson soldiers has been located.

An ecstatic Nonie Rispin, who had publicly pleaded for help from the community on the behalf of the soldiers, called 11 News early Saturday afternoon with the news. The soldiers had been volunteering with Rispin's organization, Designated Drivers of Colorado Springs, when their truck was stolen.

The husband and wife were inside the Denny’s on West Bijou and I-25 drinking coffee around 1:30 a.m. Friday, trying to stay awake during the early morning hours as they waited to get the call to drive someone safely home.

It was while trying to do good for the community that the couple became victims of a crime. Crooks stole their truck from the Denny's parking lot while the couple sat inside.

“Shock, and then serious frustration and anger. I couldn't believe that it happened. They are out trying to keep everyone in our community safe and something like this happens,” an outraged Rispin told 11 News Friday.

“All they want to do is help. All they want to do is give to this community and keep everybody safe, so when something like this happens, it’s mind-boggling,” said Rispin.

11 News is still working to get the details about the recovery of the truck, which Rispin said was found Saturday morning. Though some parts were missing and valuables were stolen, Rispin says the couple, new to the Springs, was just relieved to get their truck back.

Despite the incident, the couple plans to continue volunteering with the Designated Drivers of Colorado.
